When we talk about Feralpi Group in relation to 2025, the first image that comes to mind is the inauguration of Rolling Mill B at FERALPI STAHL in Riesa. This is a plant that represents a milestone in European steelmaking: in addition to its product-related technological capabilities – it was in fact the first in the world to produce spooled coils of up to 8 tonnes – it stands out for its strong focus on reducing environmental impacts.

Rolling Mill B produces with zero direct emissions (Scope 1), thanks also to the use of induction technology. The billet reheating furnaces, positioned along the 300-metre roller conveyor that connects the steelworks to the new plant, make processes more efficient by using electricity exclusively.

The Rolling Mill B project is complemented by other important environmental features. In particular, the reduction of scrap — made possible by the production of coils of up to 8 tonnes — and the recovery of rainwater stand out. The latter, collected from the roofs of the new plant, is channelled into a tank with a full operating capacity of 350 m³. This system allows the water to be reintroduced into the cooling and process circuit, saving approximately 6,000 m³ of drinking water from the public network every year.
