Feralpi Group’s commitment to Research and Development is expressed through 10 projects. These include Modiplant — MODular hybrId technology in the Steel PLANT production. This research activity continued in 2025 under the leadership of Feralpi Siderurgica and with the participation of ESF Elbe-Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH, within the European programme RFCS-2022-CSP-Big Tickets for Steel.
The initiative aims to develop an innovative system for billet heating by electricity, as an alternative to induction, to be implemented in an industrial-scale demonstration. Through this project too, Feralpi aims to continue its decarbonisation journey through the electrification of processes.
During 2025, operational analyses and simulations were carried out, and a cycle simulator was developed to define the most efficient configuration in terms of consumption and costs, in relation to different productivity levels.
